Anxiety: How Does Ayahuasca Help?
When it comes to Ayahuasca and it's healing properties, it seems the possibilities of what all it could help relieve a person of almost seems as vast as the oceans that cover our world. However, what is often forgotten is how Ayahuasca helps individual problems as apposed to the cure all some people often push it to be. So with that being said, I am going to start blogs on how Ayahuasca deals with individual issues that everyday people face on a day to day basis. This is mainly just to help those who are seeking very specific things that they feel are a plague on their life. And to get this ball rolling, today's topic is one many people deal with at some point in their life: Anxiety.#ayaquest
So what is Anxiety exactly? To put it simply, Anxiety can be best described as a constant state of worry and uneasiness due to a number of factors that the individual feels they cannot control with it soon to come their way. For some individuals, people is generally what make them anxious and uneasy. For others, it is simply an inherited through genetics or due to their environment pushing beyond their zone of comfort such as decision making or psychological effects stemming from said environment. Regardless of the cause, such a feeling can often leave the individual in a state the is at the least uncomfortable in their daily life at the minimal and borderline petrified if severe enough. Examples of this form of severe anxiety include but are not limited to: Selective Mutism, Separation Anxiety Disorder, and Phobias just to list a few.
Well, then how does Ayahuasca help with this exactly? In a study done in the Journal of Ethno-pharmacology, a 10 year study found that Ayahuasca increased certain uptakes in some receptors of the brain and adjustment in certain neurotransmitters, causing Anxiety to recede. Mainly in part due to Anxiety having an effect in regions of the brain such as the hippocampus and amygdala. Plus with it's ability to wipe some receptors clean, anything that may have been dimmed or overloaded by either said anxiety, pharmaceutical treatment, or other drugs as a mean to help is also mended and cleared up. Sure, the individual still gets anxious like the rest of us, but it isn't to the point of dehabilitation or on par with what was prior to taking Ayahuasca.
As a medicine man in training, I find that people should have the right to choose whether they want to take pharmaceuticals or to try plant based alternatives or therapy to help better themselves as a whole. I also find that people should have the right to have their issues treated safely and as efficiently as possible. With Ayahuasca and a proper setting, I feel that more people can get the answers and results they are seeking as compared to some of the current routes. Current routes that either turn the person into something that is no longer the man or woman everyone once knew, years of treatment that leave a person still feeling anxious and messed up, or the slue of lethal side effects to come with certain medications to treat anxiety alone in some extreme cases. That people deserve a safe way to get the things that haunt them to rest and it not cost them a ton of their money or their very well being.
